Experience the classic film with live soundtrack by the IU Symphony Orchestra

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Auditorium is proud to present Jacobs Live at the Movies, being performed at IU Auditorium for the first time. This one-of-a-kind cinematic concert event featuring the beloved 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, November 7 and 8.

Audiences will experience the film on the big screen accompanied by a live performance of the iconic score by the IU Symphony Orchestra—comprised of talented students from the Jacobs School of Music—under the direction of conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Jacobs Live at the Movies brings together two powerful art forms: film and live music. The full feature of The Wizard of Oz will be screened in its entirety, while the orchestra delivers the film’s score live, synchronizing music and cinematic action in real time. Traditionally, this event has taken place at the Musical Arts Center, but this year is part of IU Auditorium’s 2025–2026 season to allow even more movie and soundtrack enthusiasts to enjoy a magical night of cinema.

Jacobs Live at the Movies offers a spectacular marriage of film and symphonic sound as the IU Symphony Orchestra breathes life into a classic score while the movie plays in full on the big screen,” said IU Auditorium Executive Director, Maria Talbert. “It’s a special performance that spotlights the extraordinary talent of IU students and celebrates the power of music. We are grateful to have been able to collaborate with our friends at the Jacobs School of Music to bring this annual tradition to our stage for the first time.”

This immersive experience allows audiences to rediscover the magic of the film in a new way—hearing every musical nuance, watching characters come to life with live accompaniment, and enjoying a shared musical-cinematic event suitable for families, film lovers, and music enthusiasts alike.
