BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The world-renowned cinematic organist Dennis James returns for his annual family-friendly spooky spectacular Dennis James Hosts Halloween on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m.

 

Bloomington’s favorite musical mastermind and Indiana University alum continues the local Halloween tradition, hosting a night of spooky yet silly fun for all ages. This performance allows the audience to witness James bring a classic silent film to life. His grandiose live accompaniment upon the IU Auditorium’s 4,543 pipe organ creates a unique theatrical experience like no other.

 

This year’s featured silent film is the 1929 silent film thriller The Mysterious Island. An altruistic scientist, Count Dakar, has built an underground city with modernistic devices to bring about world peace. But Fallon, an evil Slavic nobleman, whom Dakar considers a friend, has other plans. Will Dakar find out about his so-called friend’s plan in time to achieve peace? 

 

“It’s one of our favorite times of year and we can’t wait to welcome back alumnus Dennis James once again to IU Auditorium to get us all in the Halloween spirit,” IU Auditorium Executive Director Doug Booher said. “This year’s film is sure to have audience members on the edge of their seat as Dennis provides the soundtrack to another silent film classic.”

 

All patrons are encouraged to arrive early for an all-ages costume party before the show with the annual B97 Costume Contest. Participants will get the special chance to strut across the stage in costume and win great prizes including tickets to Chimes of Christmas at IU Auditorium.

 

Dennis James Hosts Halloween at IU Auditorium is presented in partnership with Dermatology Center of Southern Indiana. IU Auditorium’s 2021–2022 season is presented by B97, Curry Auto Center, The Herald Times, Cook Medical, and World Arts Inc.
