Broadway Hit Chicago Celebrates 25 Years with Two Performances at IU Auditorium
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – There’s never been a better time to experience Chicago, Broadway’s razzle-dazzle smash hit, as it returns to Bloomington for two performances on March 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. After 25 years, Chicago is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake with a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show-stopping song after another.
This triumphant hit musical is the recipient of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and thousands of standing ovations and celebrates its 25th anniversary with this tour.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
“Always an audience favorite, it is our pleasure to present the 25th Anniversary tour of the Broadway smash hit Chicago,” said IU Auditorium Executive Director Maria Talbert. “With iconic songs, a riveting storyline, and of course, all that jazz, we invite everyone to join us for what will be two memorable evenings with one of Broadway’s longest-running shows.”
Chicago at IU Auditorium is presented in partnership with the Baird Wealth Management and Lamar Outdoor Advertising. IU Auditorium’s 2022–2023 season is presented by B97, CFC Properties, Curry Auto Center, The Herald Times, Upland Brewing Company, and World Arts Inc.
