Experience "Some Kind of Wonderful" with Bloomington Debut of Award-Winning Broadway Sensation Beautiful – The Carole King Musical
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit Beautiful – The Carole King Musical will take the stage for its Bloomington debut at IU Auditorium for four performances on Friday, December 10 at 8 p.m., Saturday, December 11 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 12 at 2 p.m.
Beautiful tells the story of Carole King long before she was the chart-topping music legend, when she was just a Brooklyn girl named Carol Klein with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and by the time she reached her 20s, she had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock n’ roll. It wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice.
“Carole King’s music has touched the lives of so many generations and we can’t wait to finally bring this musical to our stage next month,” IU Auditorium Executive Director Doug Booher said. “This production is filled with so many familiar hits and the audiences that experience it will be singing these songs for months to come.”
Featuring over two dozen pop classics, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman,” this crowd-pleasing international phenomenon is filled with the songs audiences remember and that won’t easily be forgotten.
Carole herself performed some of these songs live on the IU Auditorium stage over two nights in 1976. Having the musical as part of this return season will truly commemorate this music legend that graced the IU Auditorium stage 45 years ago.
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at IU Auditorium is presented in partnership with Nature’s Way, Inc. IU Auditorium’s 2021–2022 season is presented by B97, Curry Auto Center, The Herald Times, French Lick Resort, and World Arts Inc.
