Inspired by the Beloved Films, The Broadway Musical Anastasia Arrives in Bloomington for Two Nights November 9 and 10

Oct 19 / 2021

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Anastasia, the new Broadway musical, is making its Bloomington debut on November 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. at IU Auditorium.

From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, this dazzling show transports audiences from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.

Anastasia will take the audience along for a fun musical adventure and will make us all realize the importance of finding our true home,” said IU Auditorium Executive Director Doug Booher. “We look forward to having this lavish production make its Bloomington debut as part of our reopening season.”

Anastasia features a book by celebrated playwright Terrence McNally, a lush new score by Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics), and is based on original direction by Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak, with choreography by Peggy Hickey, and tour direction by Sarah Hartmann.

IU Auditorium’s 2021–2022 season is presented by B97, Curry Auto Center, The Herald Times, CFC Properties, and World Arts Inc.
