Chimes of Christmas
Bloomington’s hallmark of the holiday seasonPrint This
The holidays are a time for joy and laughter with those you love, and there’s no better way to usher in the festive spirit than by gathering the whole family for Bloomington’s favorite holiday tradition Chimes of Christmas.
Since the 1950s, audiences have delighted in this uplifting holiday spectacular, with magical performances by some of our favorite IU Jacob School of Music ensembles, including the Grammy nominated vocal ensemble the Singing Hoosiers.
With the coming of the new Singing Hoosiers director, and acclaimed vocal jazz conductor Steve Zegree in 2012, Chimes of Christmas has been catapulted into the 21st century with a fresh new look, innovative new repertoire, and oodles of energy.
Fun for Santa seekers of all ages, this performance will have all the holiday classics we crave, and some unexpected new twists to captivate even the “grinchiest” of patrons. Audience members can enjoy songs from across the pantheon of holiday repertoire. From tried-and-true favorites with a brand new beat, to beautiful classics and international rhythms, the 2013 Chimes will celebrate holiday traditions from around the corner, and around the world.
A family-friendly event with special discounts for children, Chimes is the perfect way to start the season’s celebrations. The engaging dance numbers, world-renowned vocals, and harmonious instruments bring smiles and cheer to patrons of all ages year after year. Both children and adults will enjoy the enthusiastically performed holiday carols, the up-beat new style, and the surprise appearance of a jovial Santa.
As an enthusiastic patron commented following the 2012 concert, “Wow…that was so enjoyable! (We) loved how Silent Night escalated when all the voices came together. Wonderful to the max! I was smiling and humming all the way home.”
