Lights shimmer and gleam a festive glow in the grand foyer, the IU Trombone Choir performs arrangements of seasonal favorites, and warm gingerbread cookies wait at concession stands for the chance to treat some taste buds. The stage showcases wreaths, garlands, and bows. These special holiday features can only mean one thing: it’s the time of year for CHIMES OF CHRISTMAS to set the holiday stage.
Featuring the Grammy Award-nominated Singing Hoosiers, this year’s Chimes will be led by their new director, Steve Zegree, who likes mixing things up a little! An expanded set of special guests to look forward to include the Jacobs School’s Brent Wallarab Big Band, the IU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, singer Ly Wilder, children’s show choir Syncopation, the Singing Hoosier Band and Horns, and organist William Bryant. Capping off the evening’s extravaganza will be Steve Zegree as MC!
The exciting, energetic, entertaining, fun-filled, and family-friendly program will range from traditional holiday favorites like “Sleigh Ride,” to new takes, including the world-premiere of a new “Joy to the World,” plus the Hallelujah Chorus and Nutcracker Suite.
Engaging dance numbers, world-renowned vocals, and jazz-spired arrangements will bring smiles and cheer to patrons of all ages. It’s time to enjoy the enthusiastically performed holiday carols and participate in a sing-along yourself!
The Herald-Times wrote, “The audience expected and received genial entertainment, a now-and-then showy jolt and much sentimental warmth …” So grab your mittens and scarves, and join us for the holiday party of the season.
